Ornamental onions are grown for their globe shaped flower heads that give a long period of interest as they remain looking attractive dried. Striking violet star-shaped flowers are produced in early summer, the leaves are linear and mid-green and will die back before the flowers appear. They look great planted en masse with grasses and other Alliums. Great for attracting bees and butterflies.
