The Research and Development team at Hillier Nurseries have a wealth of horticultural experience and training behind them. Utilising the heritage of Hillier Nurseries along with modern, up-to-date techniques, the team works together with international partners to deliver exciting new plants to the market.
The department is also a place where the plantspeople of tomorrow can learn their craft.
Richard Clifton | R&D Section Leader
Richard has 37 years of horticultural experience in the production of ornamental plants and trees, including time working for a major grower of trees in Germany. and as Nursery Manager for a local Tissue Culture Laboratory. Having inherited a passion for plants from his Grandfather, Sir Harold Hillier, Richard is well placed to help manage the day-to-day workload in what is a very progressive Research and Development Department.
Alan Postill | Master Propagator and Plant Breeder
Having joined Hillier at the tender age of 14, Alan has worked with a long list of notable propagators and plantsmen and after 54 years is recognised as one of the world’s number one experts in his field. Alan is still working at Hillier and producing new and exciting hybrids. Amongst his most famous is Daphne bholua ‘Jacqueline Postill’ and Choisya x dewittiana ‘Aztec Gold’.
Kevin Hobbs | Head of Research and Development
Kevin has more than 30 year’s experience in the horticulture industry. Starting with a strong grounding as a Hillier Nurseries apprentice, Kevin went on to manage a number of other businesses within horticulture including an alpine and perennial nursery. Now return to Hillier where his career started, Kevin combines this experience with his knowledge of woody plants as Head of R&D.
Yasmin Clark | R&D Apprentice
The newest member of the R&D Team, Yasmin, is just beginning her horticultural career. Currently studying for a Royal Horticultural Society qualification, Yasmin is enjoying her work with Hillier and is excited to be surrounded by so many wonderful plants! With so much energy and enthusiasm she is sure to become a future plantswoman of note.
