About Coco & Coir

Coco & Coir aims to encourage sustainable methods in gardening by tapping into the potential of the coconut husk – an under-utilised raw material.

The Coco & Coir range of growing media products are all 100% peat-free, made from natural coconut husks. After harvesting, the coconut husks are stored, ground, washed, dried, and compressed. These husks are a natural by-product of the coconut farming industry, causing minimal impact on the environment.

Coco & Coir growing media products are not only environmentally sound, they are also incredibly convenient, purchased as compressed bricks or pellets. These are rehydrated at home simply by adding water, which avoids the heavy lifting involved in moving large bags of compost.

Coco Grow | Coir Compost

(Available as a 650g brick, price: £4.99)

Uses: a perfect growing medium for sowing seeds and potting up / potting on, indoor and outdoor planting, pots and containers, as a soil improver.

Coco Grow is not only environmentally friendly but also space-friendly, purchased as compost bricks that you rehydrate at home. A 650g brick makes approximately 9 litres of compost - – add 2 to 3 litres of water during expansion.

Simply put your compressed Coco Grow brick in a container, add water and let it sit until the water is absorbed (this takes around 20 minutes). Once the water is fully absorbed, fluff up your compost and you are ready to start planting.

Coco Grow can be used on its own or mixed with other materials to create the ideal potting mix. It's the perfect peat-free growing medium for plants and is ideal to use in greenhouses, pots and containers, outdoors, and for houseplants. Dig it into the soil to improve its structure – especially vital in heavy clay soils and light sandy soils. Or, for small areas, cut the dried block into a smaller piece and just hydrate the amount you need.

It is 100% peat-free, PH and nutrient balanced. As a growing medium, it is easy to handle, uniform in composition, odourless and provides good drainage and aeration. It is free of bacteria and weed seeds, absorbs water readily and re-wets easily.

Coco Grow+ | Seed & Cuttings Compost

(Available as a 1kg brick, price: £6.99)

Uses: Great for sowing seeds and potting on young seedlings, for rooting cuttings and growing them on, for planting and for potting on orchids and succulents.

Coco Grow+ is an 80% natural coco coir brick with a 20% mixture of perlite. The addition of perlite increases the porosity of the potting mix, which helps to keep the soil loose and airy for better root growth. This in turn results in better plant growth and higher yield.

Coco Grow + works in the same way as Coco Grow, purchased as convenient compost bricks that you rehydrate at home. A 1kg brick makes approximately 15 litres of compost – add 4 to 5 litres of water during expansion.

Simply put your compressed Coco Grow+ brick in a container, add water and let it sit until the water is absorbed (this takes around 20 minutes). Once the water is fully absorbed, fluff up your compost and you are ready to start planting.

Coco Grow+ offers enhanced aeration and drainage for healthier, stronger plants as well as being sustainable and environmentally friendly, lightweight and easy to carry. Use in seed trays, plug trays and small pots to sow seedlings. When only a small amount is needed, cut the dried block into a smaller piece and just hydrate the amount you need.

It is 100% peat-free, PH and nutrient balanced. As a growing medium, it is easy to handle, uniform in composition, odourless and provides good drainage and aeration. It is free of bacteria and weed seeds, absorbs water readily and re-wets easily.

Coco Boost | All Purpose Compost with Added Nutrients

(Available as a 1kg brick, price: £6.99)

This makes it the perfect potting compost, creating the ideal rooting and growing conditions for all plants growing in containers.

Coco Dots | Coir Plug Pellets for Seed Sowing

(Available as a box of 50 pellets at 40mm width, price: £9.99)

Uses: Great for sowing seeds and potting on, for use in sowing trays and pots, for easy handling and transplanting.

Coco Dots are natural, 100% peat-free coir plug pellets. Each individual pellet is wrapped in a biodegradable net that rots away over time to minimise root disturbance. They are extremely convenient and easy to use, avoiding the mess and heavy lifting from a more traditional compost. Coco Dots ensure reliable, fast germination and improved root growth.

To use Coco Dots, simply put the required number of the compressed pellets in a seed tray or pot, add warm water and leave for a few minutes to absorb the water. Each pellet makes a 40mm diameter plug of compost.

Once the pellets are fully expanded you have the perfect plug of compost to sow seeds into or insert a prepared plant cutting into. Once your seeds are sown, position in a suitable place for germination to take place.

Coco Dots are 100% peat-free, PH and nutrient balanced. They are free of bacteria and weed seeds and absorb water readily.
