This Twisted Willow is a striking tree for the contorted nature of its branches that are also pendulous. This weeping habit makes this a smaller twisted willow, ultimately, than Salix babylonica var. pekenensis ‘Tortuosa’. It also differs from its Chinese counterpart by the colour of its stems which are orange-yellow, particularly when young. For this reason, it is recommended to prune or pollard them regularly to maintain their ornamental effect. Curiously, its leaves are also slightly twisted, but not in an unattractive way, which adds to the ornamental appeal of this variety. This is a wonderfully graceful tree that associates well with water in all soil types.
