The Fascination is an elegant albosinensis with its own distant features and appeal. Its branches are ascending, with a more uniformed, pyramidal canopy, making it ideal for urban locations and car parks. Its winter form is particularly striking and unites well when planted in front of distinct urban infrastructure.
Its leaves are the darkest of all Betula, providing a dense sheltered canopy perfect for summer screening and dappled shade. During spring the dark leaves help exhibit its larger 15cms long catkins which hang in the wind like lamb’s tails.
Its bark is typical of the red birch, with creamy pinks and copper maturing to a brilliant white.
Size | A little shorter than standard albosinesis and pendula, 8-10m high x 4m wide after 25 years |
Environment | A hardy tree that establishes in most soils types including chalk or clay. Will tolerate dry conditions during summer periods |
Bark | Landscape Architects and designers alike will particularly enjoy the winter contrast of pinks and cinnamon. A sophisticated alternative to the striking white of the Himalayan birch |
Flowers | Male catkins appear with warming honey colour in the beginnings of spring. These grow much longer than standard albosinensis |
