Sorbus x thuringiaca ‘Fastigiata’

"Bastard Service Tree"

Common Name

"Bastard Service Tree"

Small. Very formal lollipop shaped head. Good for formal situations, e.g. car parks or near modern buildings. A cultivar of Sorbus thuringiaca which itself is a hybrid between Sorbus aria and Sorbus aucuparia. This tree has the best features of its parents, the leaves are like Sorbus aria, green with white beneath, but the leaves are narrower and lobed at the base. The habit is compact and upright with white flowers followed by glossy red berries. Good street tree.
