The Sorbus x thiringiaca ‘Fastigiata’ is a small-sized, deciduous tree, commonly known as Whitebeam. It’s a cultivar of Sorbus thiringiaca, which itself is a hybrid between Sorbus aria and Sorbus aucuparia.

Whitebeam stands out for its upright, narrowly lollypop shape, making it an excellent choice for formal situations, for example car parks, or modern urban buildings. The tree maintains its compact and tidy appearance as it matures.

The foliage of the Sorbus thiringiaca ‘Fastigiata’ are serrated leaflets that emerge a bright green in spring. They are white beneath like its parent Sorbus aria, but narrower and lobed at the base. In autumn, these transition to reds, oranges and burgundies.

In late spring to early summer, the tree produces clusters of creamy-white flowers, followed by small, ornamental, glossy red berries. The Whitebeam is adaptable to a variety of soil conditions, and is generally low-maintenance and tolerant of urban conditions. It’s upright growth habit, combined with its attractive foliage, make it a great choice for landscaping projects where space and aesthetic appeal are desired. A very good street tree.
