Quercus frainetto ‘Hungarian Crown’

Quercus frainetto ‘Hungarian Crown’ is a variety of the Hungarian oak. This deciduous tree is known for its rapid growth, showcasing upright branches that shape a broadly oval crown. Its foliage is a highlight, with dark green leaves that are both large and deeply lobed, measuring up to 20cm in length. As autumn arrives, the tree transforms into a spectacle of yellow-orange hues, providing a stunning display of seasonal colours.

This particular oak variety exhibits robust and vigorous growth, adapting well to a diverse range of soil types, including chalk. Its adaptability makes it an excellent candidate for widespread planting, adding a touch of elegance and resilience to various landscapes.

Hillier proposed the name for this clone ‘Hungarian Crown’, originally from Southeast Europe, and emphasising its vigorous nature and commendable attributes.
