We’re looking for your help
Earlier this year, we had an idea inspired by the TV show DIY SOS.
Here at Hillier, we all wanted to do something special for our charity partner Wessex Cancer Trust by transforming a garden for one of their clients. At first we wondered if maybe the project was a little too big to take on, then we realised, if anyone can do this, Hillier can. With 73 Chelsea Gold Medals, a wonderful team of horticultural experts and a club full of Gardening enthusiasts, this would be a breeze, wouldn’t it?
A couple of phone calls later and our award-winning Chelsea duo, Sarah Eberle, Chelsea’s most decorated designer and Mark Tomlinson from MJT Landscapes, are as excited as we are about the project and ready to take on a challenge!
Here is where our Gardening Club family comes in, we can’t do this alone, creating a garden is about team work, so we need your help, just like DIY SOS!
Meet the Burrells
It was an absolute pleasure to meet Pippa and Daniel Burrell, who live in Fair Oak, near Winchester, Hampshire recently.
Since 2016 their 2 year old son Sebastian has been undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street hospital and receiving support from Wessex Cancer Trust for a tumour he has behind his eyes.
They love gardening and spending time outdoors together and had a lot of ideas for their garden when they first moved in, but they’d inherited a challenge. With broken patio and walls, poor lawns and flower beds, it would take them some time to transform this into their dream garden with space to cook and eat, colourful plants, a herb garden and a play area for Sebastian.
However, between Sebastian’s hospital treatments, working, and the day to day of busy family life, they unfortunately have not had the time to make it into the family area they want it to be, so we’re excited to be able to step in and give them something to enjoy.
Here’s how you can help
We’re looking for volunteers to donate their time to assist Hillier in the transformation of a garden to make this family’s dreams come true.
There are plenty of jobs to go around, with anything from the planting, to making the tea. If you met them we’re sure you’d agree, this family deserve a garden they can enjoy together and we’d love to give them this.
Register by the 30th June to help out at the transformation, just fill in the form below and we’ll get back to you.
The transformation will take place at the end of July, exact dates TBC.
No time to volunteer? Then you can still help by donating via Wessex Cancer Trust’s online donation page instead.
If our donations exceed our expectations, we will be using the excess funds to help other families who applied to be part of the project.
